5 Things You'll Do In Your Taster Session!

So you want to do a free taster session with us here at The Code Zone but would like to know what to expect before going in? Well wonder no more, I’m here to tell you 5 things you can expect during your taster!
1) 15 minutes of 1-to-1 mentoring
That’s right, each of our taster sessions start 15 minutes before the usual club times to give you the chance to meet your STEM certified mentor and learn a little bit about how our platform works, all without any distractions! During this time you can ask as many (or few!) questions as you want to get prepared for the main session!
2) Immediate playability
Once we’re in the game you will have the chance to get stuck in straight away! All our games come to you completely playable right out the box, allowing you to get a feel for things straight away, this also means we have a starting point for any ideas you might have to change the game!
3) Get stuck in
Our code card and guided hack give you step by step instructions to make some easy changes to your game, from making parts of your game flash all the colours of the rainbow, to high score mechanics and more! (this is also a great way to help our younger and less tech savvy coders learn mouse skills such as clicking and dragging!)
4) Get social
In our clubs you will be in groups of up to 6 members, so there’s plenty of people to talk about your hobbies and interests with while you code! Got a cool new pokemon card you want to share with the group? Now’s the perfect chance!
5) Meet the iconic Zonebot!
Our scratch games often include our good friend Zonebot and the escapades it gets into! This charming orange cube often plays the role of our player character, and is always ready and willing to be transformed by your imagination.

About The Code Zone
The Code Zone teaches children aged 6 to 16 to code by building their own games. Outside the UK that is the Game Dev Academy: self-paced, so a child works at whatever hour suits them in any time zone, with a background-checked, STEM-certified mentor answering by text and video message.
It started in Britain, where in 2026 it was the highest-placed coding club in Club Hub UK's Top 100 Children's Activity Providers, and in 2025 received the Autism Inclusion Award from the National Autistic Society, the UK's leading autism charity. More than a third of members are autistic or have ADHD, based on what parents tell us when they join.

Club news is the other half, and it is where posts like this one live: game jams, Minecraft builds and weekly roundups, written up by whoever ran the session. Neither is marketing. If you want to know what the work actually looks like before you sign up to anything, club news is the more honest read of the two.
