Computer Science Education Week: CS Powers AI!

Those of us that have a drivers licence will know that as part of the test they may ask you about how certain aspects of your car works. This is so we know how to make sure our car is running smoothly and can maybe diagnose some issues - this is all part of being a safe and responsible driver.  While this might seem like a weird start to a post about Computer Science Education Week, I promise it has some meaning behind it! 

Computer science is, essentially, like being able to understand the WHY of the computer, much like those weird engine questions on a driving test. We here at The Code Zone think it’s super important that everyone has that level of understanding of their devices, and it turns out we aren’t alone! The Computer Science Teachers Association have an annual week dedicated to advocating for advanced computer science education for all.

AI and coding

 While you might think “but AI can do all that for us surely?” and while AI has been steadily gaining space (so much so that the theme for this CESW is about how computer science empowers AI) we need to note that it is still very much in its infancy when it comes to being able to produce workable code.

We need computer scientists and developers to be able to work on the code, either making their AI better or fixing any mistakes that it will put in to the code.

Where does The Code Zone fit in?

Our sessions here at The Code Zone provide a space for our members to both learn how to code, and also to engage in activities to improve their critical thinking and problem solving skills - from fixing bugs to creating their own unique games.

We also promote having conversations about varying tech concepts, like AI, to understand what to do to tackle its usage in the outer world!
