The theme is "It's Dangerous To Go Alone, Take This". What "this" is, is up to you...
Here's to another successful afternoon of hacking Tom's latest creation 'Storm Survival'.
Highlights today have included some brilliant butterfly gameplay, heaps of boss battling fun, a penguin onslaught and of course I have to mention the taco fuelled super panther!
We've also seen plenty of work being completed on a some game jam projects a special highlight of the day being one challenging platformer which syncs up perfectly to its energising soundtrack.
Eddie has summoned the Gods of Rain to lash down on our poor bug just trying to survive the storm! Though fear not, because Bob and Jimmy the Guardian Squirrels are on hand to offer shelter from the heavens. If the player hides near one of the squirrels then nothing can touch them!
Arlo made his Game Dev Club debut as an official member today and made some very striking visual changes to his game. Such a cool style!
Tal made custom art for her sprites and gave her bug a shield to protect it from the rain.
Check out Tal's raindrop design!
Seyon worked on Battle Tanks, he gave the game a unique look and designed a huge round to fire towards his foes! Seyon has loads of ideas for this game, I can't wait to see how it turns out!
Another phenomenal day of Game Dev Clubs
Awesome work all round guys!
About our game jams
A game jam is a themed build: we announce a theme, and children across the Academy spend a few weeks making something from it. There is no brief beyond the theme and nothing to finish by a deadline you can fail. Children share what they made on our own platform, where chat and sharing between members is moderated by mentors.
Jams are included in Academy membership. They are the part of the Academy where everybody is working on the same thing at once, which for a self-paced course is worth having.
The blog is in two halves. Guides are the evergreen explainers written by the mentors who teach the clubs, covering the questions parents actually ask: what comes after Scratch, how to support a coding-mad child when you cannot code yourself, and what works for autistic and ADHD children.
Club news is the other half, and it is where posts like this one live: game jams, Minecraft builds and weekly roundups, written up by whoever ran the session. Neither is marketing. If you want to know what the work actually looks like before you sign up to anything, club news is the more honest read of the two.
