What you are actually paying for

The honest answer is a person. Every platform a child can learn on is free or nearly free, and several of them are very good. What none of them do is notice that a child has gone quiet, or that they have rebuilt the same game four weeks running because they are avoiding something harder.

That is what a mentor does, and it is most of the difference between a child who codes for a term and a child still coding three years later.

The Game Dev Academy at €30 a month is that mentor, answering by text and video message, along with a new build every week, Minecraft Mod Worlds and our own platform. There is no fixed hour to be at, which for a lot of families is the point: a child works on the days that are good and stops on the days that are not.

Why you can believe any of it

The Code Zone is a British company and its awards were judged there. In 2026 it was the highest-placed coding club in Club Hub UK's Top 100 Children's Activity Providers, ranked second of a hundred by five independent judges scoring safeguarding, inclusivity and community impact.

In 2025 it received the Autism Inclusion Award from the National Autistic Society, the UK's leading autism charity, and more than a third of members are autistic or have ADHD based on what parents tell us when they join.

Over 1,000 children are enrolled. Creating an account is free and takes no card details, and you can cancel any time with 30 days' notice.

FAQ

We're here to help!
Everything, with nothing added on afterwards. The Game Dev Academy at €30 a month is the self-paced membership: a STEM-certified mentor answering by text and video message, a new build every week, our own platform, and Minecraft Mod Worlds. No joining fee and no minimum term.
No. Minecraft Mod Club is included with every membership rather than sold separately.
No. Creating an account is free and we do not ask for card details to do it, so you can see the platform before deciding anything. The membership only starts when you subscribe.
Neither. It is a rolling monthly membership and you can cancel any time with 30 days’ notice.
Members keep their Game Dev Academy access, so nothing is lost, and mentors stay reachable by message between sessions. We understand that some weeks are harder than others.
It suits a child who would rather work when they feel like it than at a fixed hour, which includes a great many children who have found weekly clubs hard going. Beginners are fine either way: it starts in Scratch and nothing assumes any prior knowledge. If you are not sure, write to us and we will tell you honestly.
Talk to us. Families pause over the summer or around exams every year and we would far rather hold a place than lose a child who wants to come back. Email info@thecodezone.co.uk or call 0333 090 5697.
Not yet. The live weekly clubs run on UK evenings in groups of no more than six, and we cannot staff those hours for other time zones, so the Academy is what is on offer here. If you would like to hear when that changes, write to us and we will make a note.
No. Children need a laptop or desktop with a browser and a screen 12.9 inches or larger. Everything else, including Minecraft Mod Club and access to our own platform, is part of the membership.
Nothing automatically. Creating one takes no card details, so if you decide it is not right you simply do not subscribe. If you do want to carry on, the Academy is one month at a time and you can stop whenever you like.
